Campbells girdled lizard

Endemic, SVL 60 - 75 mm, max SVL 79 mm.

A small girdled lizard similar in appearance to the Herero girdled lizard, C.pustulatus.It has flattened body. The nasals, which touch each other, are not or only feebly tubular, and separate the rostral and the frontonasal. Each lower eyelid has a semi-transparent disc. There are 6-8 occipitals, the middle ones often being small. The dorsal scales are keeled on the back and moderately spiny on the flanks, in 27-31 rows. the ventrals are mostly amooth and in 16-18 longitudinal rows. There   is a pair of enlarged preanal plates. Five femoral pores are present on each thigh. The back and tail are chestnut to light brown, with irregular dark brown crossbars, and sometimes with a dark central band. There are numerous small, yellow specks along the back and on the head. The belly is off-white, with rusty infusions on tje chin and throat. Biology : This lizards lives in rock cracks on arid mountain slopes, feeding on termites and beetles. Habitat : Rocky, arid savannah. Range : Vicinity of Helmeringshausen, Great Namaqualand in Namibia.
