Here I have some of the questions that I have got during this time. If there are something that you are missing, please send me a mail about it.
How to see the difference between C.t.jonesii and C.t.tropidosternum ?
The C.t.jonesii is much smaller than the larger C.tropidosternum, see here.
How to sex them ?
The male are more broad between the rear legs than the female.
How big terrarium do they need ?
If you have one or two the length should be about 80 cm long and 40-50 broad and 40-50 high, the height is to have som tree roots/pieces for them to climb on since they like climbing, and the large area is for them to run on. If you have more lizards you will have to enlarge the bottom area, I have 5 lizards and use 120cm length, 60cm broad and 50 cm high.
The lighting ?
I use halogentubes of 100-150 W, they are at a distace of 30 -40 cm from the basking points. If you do not have D3 drops you have to use a UV tube, Reptisun or Zoomed.
The inside of the terrarium ?
I use mopane and mangrove roots and have put mosquito netting on the walls for them to climb on, there are 2 basking points on top of some roots. I use fine sand on the bottom.Waterbowl which they almost use every time they change their skin so it is full of sand. I use to mist them one or twice a week.
The temp ?
They need a background temp of about 20-25 degrees Celsius during day and 15-20 degrees Celsius during the night, the basking spot could be about 30-40 degrees Celsius.
What do they eat ?
They eat almost everything that moves and could be eaten, the do not like bugs from zoophobas, they are too hard to eat. So they got; crickets, zoophobas, mealworms, waxmott catepillars (their favourite) and grasshoppers. And during the summer everything that I can catch. They get food 2-4 times a week, mainly crickets dusted in multivitaminpowder, you have to do dust the food everytime you feed them.
I have got small ones, what do they eat and what do they need ??
They eat small crickts and they need a hot place too lay below and the most important is CALCIUM and D3 vitamin, either from UV-tubes or from drops tp use in the drinkingwater. You need to dust the food in multivitamineralpowder at least once a week, and feed them as often as they take the crickets.
